Maybe I *am* more of an 80's child than a 60's child. Usually my birthday's the only thing to give me away--I only saw the 70's from the womb and bassinet, and between 5th and 8th grades every girl I went to school with had bangs that would scrape the paint off the top of the doorways as they walked through. But my temprament and musical preferences have always been stuck in my parent's era. Maybe my dad being a rock musician has something to do with that.

Damn hippy parents.

So why my sudden change of heart? Am I suddenly pegging my jeans or something?

Here's the deal:
I was doing my dishes this morning while listening to the oldies station, and the dj says "Here comes some Simon and Garfunkel for you" so I think 'Mrs. Robinson' or 'The Boxer', which I like, or 'Bridge over Troubled Water', which I don't. Even though I have a couple of their albums, I don't recognize the song at first. Then I do. It's 'Hazy Shade of Winter'.

I say to myself, "Why did Simon and Garfunkel rip off the Bangles?"

Oh, wait.

So, yeah, I'd dumb. Or, if not dumb, then certainly an 80's child.

It's funny, on one hand I know that nobody's looking at this. I know that I don't WANT anyone to look at this right now, and whatever, the hit counter says 5 or something from me going through and making sure all the links work. But I want to get into the practice of writing in this a little bit at a time, or else I'll NEVER get anything done.

And, at the very least, this is a start.

So, what have I done recently, you ask? Oh, I finished my fellowship application #2 . Full of hope, yet fearing the worst. We'll see what happens.

Howdy, howdy, howdy.

You've probably noticed that this is brand spankin'-new, right here. More will come soon.

"But who are you? What are you doing? Why waste website space that could be used for good ol'fashioned hardcore pornography?" you may be asking, if you managed to surf in here because the words "Hardcore pornography" were just used (twice!)

Well, here's the general plan. And a little bit about myself.

1: I am but a simple grad student, and not in computer science or anything like that, so this is just going to be a bit of a hobby for now, much like me and my best friend's first website attempt. Only I won't spend 40 hours a week on this one for three weeks and then get bored, because I have a big plan.

2:As a simple grad student, one who lives far from family and loved ones, I decided that it's time to let them know what's going on every once in awhile, and hopefully this will, in the long run, be easier than writing to 10-30 people to tell them that I saw a skunk today, or whatever.

3: And I plan on doing that by giving them this website address and telling them to check in whenever they want. That way, I don't stress people out by writing them 10 zillion pages at a time when I have a funny story, and I won't be stressed out by trying to write the same story in a slightly different way to a whole bunch of people. Maybe this is just my own personal crazyness, but I'm always worried that 2 or 3 of my peeps that know each other may forward my less personal messages back and forth, only to find out that they ALL got the SAME MESSAGE! (but, god bless cut-and-paste).
